New Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Kai Widdrington has a connection to co-star Giovanni Pernice.
It turns out Kai, who was previously on Dancing With The Stars Ireland, is actually flatmates with Giovanni.
And now, the 25-year-old is joining Strictly alongside former Let’s Dance Germany professional Nikita Kuzmin, reigning South African Latin champion Cameron Lombard and winner of The Greatest Dancer Jowita Przystal.
“I get to dance alongside my flatmate, what more could you want?” he said to BBC Breakfast about joining the series.
“But he’s delighted, he was wishing me well. He’s known for a little while as well but he’s had to keep it quiet as well.
“It should be fun sharing a stage with you with one of your best mates. So that’s an added bonus definitely. We are really naturally quite competitive anyway, and he’s quite competitive in general but we just mess around.”
The dancer says that, although they are both competitive, it would simply be nice to share the stage.
His parents are also over the moon about him joining the show as he grew up watching it with them.
Meanwhile, Giovanni has been part of Strictly Come Dancing since 2015.
While Giovanni has never won the Glitterball Trophy with his celebrity partner, he has placed second in the BBC dance contest three times.
Having a flatmate that works at the same place as you probably makes mornings and commutes much easier.
Kai clearly has a host of talents but his footwork saw him became the youngest World Junior Latin-American champion aged just 14.
His previous TV accolades have put him in good running for a coveted role on Strictly, after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2012 aged 16, and making it to the final.

Kai said: “This is my childhood dream come true.
“Watching Strictly from the very first series as a young boy from Southampton and now 18 years later, to be a professional dancer on the show is the most amazing feeling and the biggest accomplishment of my career. I can’t wait to step onto the Strictly floor and experience the exciting times that lie ahead.”
Kai has been a professional dancer on Dancing With The Stars in Ireland since its first series in 2017.
He finished twice as Runner-up on the show in 2018 and 2020.
