Ossy Martin was the chief tormentor as Lobi Star recorded a 4-1 victory against Rivers United in the NPFL on Sunday.

It took Lobi Stars just two minutes to register their first goal of the game as Douglas Achiv converted Ebube Duru’s cross.

Lobi Stars almost increased the lead three minutes later, when Jimoh Oni’s cross found Zenke Tersoo who laid it on the path Ossy Martins, but a last minute intervention from a defender stopped him from pulling the trigger.

The hosts finally doubled their lead four minute after the break and it was Mathias Samuel who set up Martins for a powerful blinder that beat River United goalkeeper Abiodun Akande.

In the 69th minute Mathias Samuel was in the right place to tap home a rebound after Zenke’s shot crashed against the woodwork.

Rivers United reduced the deficit in the 79th minute after Nelson Esor robbed Mutiu Ogundimi off the ball before setting up Fortune Omoniwari who calmly slotted home from close range.

But, Lobi Stars restored their three-goal advantage, three minutes later through an own goal from Fabian Nworie, who headed the ball past his own keeper from Mutiu Ogundimi’s lob.

Kabiru Dogo’s side now move 3 places from 10th to 7th place on the the table and are 5 points adrift the leaders.

They travel to Uyo for the next game against Akwa United on 28th March, 2021.
