Ahead of the 2023 general election, some agents believed to belong to the Tinubu-Not-Negotiable (TNN) group have already started the act of vote buying.
This is coming amid speculations that Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will be the next presidential candidate of the party in 2023.
A video obtained by Global Times shows the agents consisting of male and females donned the TNN cap — handing out a few naira notes to some able-bodied residents in Lagos.
In the video, the agents were seen chanting the slogan “TNN!”, while the residents who were waiting in line for the token replied with “Non-Negotiable”, the agents; “Non-Negotiable”, the residents, “Tinubu for president.”
The agents were also heard advising the residents to wash their hands in other to prevent coronavirus, whilst disobeying the social distancing order by the state government.
Vote-buying by politicians and their agents, which has taken the centre stage in today’s politics, is seen as ‘the act of exchanging votes for money and other material things between politicians and the electorate.’
While some Nigerians have succeeded in downplaying the effects of vote-buying in our society, others are of the opinion that vote-buying will destroy the country’s democracy.
