British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Johnson said in a tweet that he has “developed mild symptoms” and is self-isolating. “But I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus,” he said.
The United States now leads the world in confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus after surpassing China’s reported total. More than 82,000 people have been infected and nearly 1,200 have died in the United States, which is quickly becoming the new epicenter of the outbreak.
Meanwhile, the House is expected to vote Friday on a $2 trillion emergency relief bill aimed at softening the blow from an economic crisis caused by the pandemic, offering a measure of solace as the United States faces a sharp downturn and uncertainty over how long restrictions on movement will remain.
