Kano State Government said it has removed Muhammad Sanusi II as emir of Kano and will announce a new emir to replace him.
The dethronement of the Emir followed the State Council executive meeting presided over by the Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Emir Muhammad Sanusi II was the 14th Emir of Kano before he was dethroned by the Kano State Government.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a former Nigerian Central Bank Governor ascended the throne in 2014 after the death of his granduncle Ado Bayero.
The dethronement was announced by an official of the Kano State Government on his twitter handle @dawisu.
The Government said a new Emir will be announced shortly.
BEFORE THE DETHRONEMENT OF SANUSI:
Ganduje is seen in most quarters as launching a vendetta against Sanusi for not supporting his second-term bid.
Aided by the assembly, Ganduje created four new first-class emirates to add to the Kano emirate headed by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
It was believed that the move was to reduce Sanusi’s influence after the monarch allegedly opposed his re-election in 2019.
More recently, Sanusi is wanted before the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to face questions on alleged N2.2 billion land scam.
